My life

Imagine a wheel. For it to turn smoothly all of the segments need to be the same size and in good condition.

It’s like life really. If one part of your life is not going well you'll feel off kilter or out of balance.

Over many years and from lots of research there have been various versions of a “wheel of life” or “life gauge” developed. Each segment within the wheel or gauge represents an area of your life. The 8 elements in the life gauge ar listed below. I think they represent a rounded fulfilling life.

*       Business / career
*       Money / wealth
*       Health and wellbeing
*       Family
*       Relationships
*       Personal growth (learning and development)
*       Fun and adventure
*       Physical environment (where you live, work and play)

EXERCISE

Print off the life gauge chart (in the PDF below). Give each of the 8 areas a rating out of 1 – 10. Where 1 is you’re not getting any satisfaction or happiness at all and 10 is you’re absolutely experiencing everything you desire and you’re very happy.

Now the trick to the success with this exercise is to go with your gut feel. It’s not about over-thinking or over-analysing your thoughts and what’s going on (or not going on) and then trying to calculate a score. Think about the segment title, e.g. health and wellbeing, are you very happy, somewhat happy or not at all happy with your overall health and wellbeing at the moment? Choose a number, between 1 and 10, that feels right for you now.

I recommend doing the exercise using the 8 segments I’ve included, at least the first time. Then have a think about whether there are any you would change. If you do change it, keep the number of elements to no more than 8.

You’ll be referring to the life gauge in the coming weeks so keep it handy.
