Are you ready for a new month?

- by Tracey Hancock, REALiving coach + mentor

As we move into a new month, it's useful to pause and take a look back over the month that's been. Now, before we go any further though you need to know that looking back is useful BUT it must be done well.

Review and reflect

Looking back, reviewing and reflecting, is an opportunity to observe and notice what happened and identify the lessons that will help you live well now.

It's not an opportunity to beat yourself up, judge yourself harshly or wallow in self-loathing about what you should have done. There’s nothing, absolutely nothing, to be gained from doing that because you cannot change what has or hasn't happened in the past.

Looking back is a check-in not a deep dive, a gaze not a stare, a short stay not a long stay. It has a place in helping you live your real life now, but promise me (actually, promise yourself) that you'll do it well.

Remember, as you review and reflect, do it with kindness and compassion. Your role is to be an observer, to simply notice what you need to know and learn.

Time to release - to let go

Before you can step fully into the potential of a new month you need to let go of what no longer serves you well. Let go of behaviours, thoughts, habits, relationships, possessions, tasks or whatever it is that's holding you back.

Beautiful, you cannot change anything that has or hasn't happened. You cannot take back anything you said or how you said it. It's the past and you're not living there anymore.

Let go of anything that's keeping you stuck. It no longer serves you well.

Reset for the month ahead

Put yourself in the driver's seat of your life. Get nice and comfy, really own that seat, it's yours - this is your life.

What deserves your attention, energy and focus in the month ahead?

So often we're told we can do anything. And while I'm sure you could do anything you put your mind to, you can't do everything.

It's so easy to be pushed and pulled by expectations, demands and what others are saying. But is it what really matters to you?

Time travel forward and imagine it's the end of this month, as you review and reflect on it ... how will you feel and what will you be saying about what you did and achieved?

Get clear about what matters to you. Use that to guide your priorities and most importantly, use that to say "no" to things that come along that aren't for you.
