Regrets are ugly, take action now

- by Tracey Hancock, REALiving coach + mentor

Do you have regrets?

"In the end, we only regret the chances we didn’t take, the relationships we were afraid to have, and the decisions we waited too long to make.” — Lewis Carroll

How often have you been consumed by doubts, fears and worries, so much so you've held back from doing something you want to do?

If you're like me, it's happened a lot. Although, to be honest, these days I'm less likely to hold back. You see the thing that upset me most when I was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2015 was that I had so many regrets.

Regrets are ugly.

What do you most want to do?

Truth: we can't turn back time.

We can't travel back to when we did or didn't do something, or perhaps it's something you said or didn't say that bothers you. Those regrets can be all consuming but staying stuck in them doesn't help you to live well now.

What is it that you most want to do?

Make a list. What are the things you'll regret not doing? Don't judge or censor your thoughts, simply put what comes to mind down on paper.

Now have a look at your list. How's it looking? Is there anything further you want to add at this stage?

Make it real.

Some of the things on your list may take a bit of planning. Others might require some money or perhaps it's a matter of timing. There will be something, even if it's the smallest of actions, that you can do now.

Beautiful, you cannot change anything that has or hasn't happened. You cannot take back anything you said or how you said it. It's the past, and you're not living there anymore.

Step into the driver's seat now and give your attention, energy and focus to living well. It's time to make your dreams real and do those things that are important to you.

Regrets are ugly, live well now.
